Lake Powell Fishing Report

Lake Powell May 2019

The fishing conditions for the trip were favorable. Calm waters in the morning and evenings, windy during the afternoons pushing bait fish off of the points. We focused on catching smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and striper. We used d-shad flukes with weighted swimbait hooks that got crushed almost every retrieve. Ned rigs worked well for smallmouth, we used suspending jerk baits for largemouth and anchovies for striper.

It's certainly a flight to get there, but it's well-worth the trip. Houseboats are available for rent year round, but are cheaper in the off-season (May), which is a great time to catch spawning bass and striper. We ended up with 33 fish total over the course of 2 days that wasn't officially a "fishing trip". Hoping for another fun trip in 2021 to catch more!! Tight lines!!
